Day 1

  1. 09:30 Grote Markt & City Hall – Guildhall-lined main square with the Renaissance City Hall and the Brabo fountain.
  2. 10:05 Het Steen – Medieval riverside castle, now the visitor centre with a free rooftop and the Antwerp Story.
  3. 11:00 Cathedral of Our Lady – Belgium's tallest Gothic cathedral, home to four Rubens masterpieces.
  4. 12:05 Vlaeykensgang – Hidden 16th-century cobbled alley tucked away behind the cathedral.
  5. 14:00 DIVA Diamond Museum – Five centuries of Antwerp diamonds, jewellery and silver, just off the Grote Markt.
  6. 14:45 St Charles Borromeo Church – Lavish Baroque Jesuit church on a quiet square, its facade designed with Rubens.
  7. 15:45 St James' Church – Restored Gothic church with a rich Baroque interior and the chapel where Rubens is buried.
  8. 16:30 MoMu Fashion Museum – Antwerp's fashion museum; 'The Antwerp Six' runs until 17 Jan 2027.

Day 2

  1. 09:30 Diamond quarter – The streets beside the station where most of the world's rough diamonds are traded.
  2. 09:55 Antwerpen-Centraal station – The 'railway cathedral': a domed 1905 hall of marble, iron and glass.
  3. 10:20 ZOO Antwerpen – One of the world's oldest zoos (1843), with historic buildings next to the station.
  4. 14:00 Rubens House – Rubens Experience and baroque garden at the painter's home; the house itself is under restoration.
  5. 15:30 Snijders&Rockoxhuis – Two neighbouring patrician houses with Flemish Baroque art, incl. Bruegel and Snijders.

Practical info & fares

Paying on De Lijn

  • Tap your contactless card, phone or watch on the white terminal when you board
  • One trip: €3, transfers free within 60 min
  • Day ticket €9, 3 days €18 in the De Lijn app
  • SMS tickets (DL to 4884) only work with a Belgian SIM

Premetro works until spring 2027

  • Premetro Groenplaats and Meir are closed until about end of March 2027
  • Use surface trams instead: 4 (Groenplaats–KMSKA), 7 (Meir–MAS), 11 (Station–Melkmarkt)
  • Old line numbers 3, 5, 9, 15 now run as A3 and A9, not via the centre
  • The old town is compact: most walks take under 20 min

Antwerp City Pass

  • Free entry to 16 museums, 4 churches and 3 attractions
  • 24h €45 · 48h €55 · 72h €65, with unlimited De Lijn trams and buses
  • Includes KMSKA, the Cathedral, MAS and Red Star Line; the Zoo is only 25% off
  • Buy online or at the visitor centres in Het Steen and Centraal Station

From the airports

  • Brussels Airport → Antwerpen-Centraal: direct train ~30 min, twice an hour
  • About €15, incl. the €6.90 airport supplement
  • From Charleroi: TEC bus to Charleroi-Central, then a direct train (~1 h 40)

Mondays & free entry

  • Closed Mondays: MAS and FOMU (MAS opens on Easter and Whit Monday)
  • Open daily: KMSKA, the Cathedral and the Zoo
  • There is no free day for visitors: the first-Tuesday deal is for Antwerp residents only
  • Under 18s get in free at KMSKA and MAS

Stay alert at night

  • Watch for pickpockets at Centraal Station and on busy trams
  • Take care around De Coninckplein and the station side streets late at night
  • The Schipperskwartier (red-light district, near Eilandje) is busy but rowdy at night

Taxis

  • Official taxis have a lit roof sign and a city licence; the city sets one uniform tariff
  • The fare is shown on the meter, which prints a receipt with the company's number
  • Book by phone or with the taxi.eu app; up to 4 passengers, taxi vans 7–8 for the same price
  • Ride apps: check availability in the app before you rely on them
