Free & cheap parking in Antwerp

Parking in the centre of Antwerp adds up fast. These are the free and cheap options we found on official sites, with how to get into the centre and the rules to watch.

Checked: 18 October 2026. Prices and hours can change; check the official site before you go.

What is P+R? P+R means Park and Ride: a car park on the edge of the city, next to a metro, tram or bus stop. You leave the car there and ride into the centre.

πŸ’‘ The cheapest way

The cheapest sensible way to visit Antwerp by car is a P+R on the edge of the city: €1 for the first 24 hours at Luchtbal, Merksem, Linkeroever or Olympiade, then the tram to Astrid or Diamant next to Central Station. Visitors cannot park on the street in the historic centre at all, and the cheapest central garage we found is Zuiderterras at €25.70 for 9 to 24 hours. Street parking is free on Sundays and public holidays.

Free street parking

When paid street parking is free

The short version: the street is yours for free on Sundays, public holidays and 11 July, and every evening once the meters stop (Monday to Saturday: after 22:00 in red and light green, after 19:00 in dark green, yellow, pink and purple, after 18:00 in orange and blue). Two exceptions. Around the AFAS Dome the pink and dark green event zones keep charging, with a 2-hour limit around concerts since 1 July. And in the historic centre visitors cannot park on the street at all, free or not: head for a car park or a P+R instead. More info β†—

Ways to pay less

Combi ticket from the De Lijn app

When we checked (October 2026), a temporary €6 combi ticket at Merksem, Luchtbal and Linkeroever covered a return trip for one person plus up to 24 hours of parking. Without it you pay €1 for parking and about €3 per person for a one-hour De Lijn ticket. Activate the ticket before you board and enter your number plate in the app. More info β†—

Reserve and prepay a P+R place

At Linkeroever, Merksem and Luchtbal you can pay at the machine or reserve and prepay online. More info β†—

Q-Park night out and day out deals

When we checked, Q-Park advertised evening packages (17:30–03:00) from €12 to €17 and a Park + Ride day out from €16, which can beat the hourly rate. Leaving within 15 minutes is free. More info β†—

Watch out

LEZ: the whole city centre and Linkeroever, 24/7

Diesel must be at least Euro 5, petrol, LPG and gas at least Euro 2. A Euro 4 diesel or Euro 1 petrol car (or older) needs a day pass: €45, valid until 06:00 the next day, maximum 12 times a year. Buy it online up to four months ahead or at the latest the day after you enter, or at one of seven machines on the same day. The day pass is not valid in Ghent or Brussels. All P+Rs are outside the LEZ. More info β†—

Foreign number plate: register for free

Vehicles with foreign plates (not Dutch) that meet the norms must be registered once for free, at the latest one day after entering the LEZ. Otherwise they are fined, even if they comply. More info β†—

LEZ fine: €150, rising to €250 and €350

First offence €150; second within 12 months €250; any further offence within 12 months €350. Fines arrive by letter. Payment demands by SMS or WhatsApp are fraud. More info β†—

No street parking for visitors in the historic centre

Only residents and permit holders may park on the street there. Use a car park or a P+R. More info β†—

The one-hour pause

In red, light green and purple zones and in event zones you must wait one hour between two parking sessions in the same zone. Moving the car to the next street in the same zone does not reset the session. More info β†—

Linkeroever: no trams until the end of March 2027

From 4 May 2026 to the end of March 2027, works in the premetro tunnel stop trams 3, 5, 9 and 15 from running to Linkeroever. Use the shuttle bus from P+R Linkeroever to Operaplein. More info β†—

Match days and concerts

P+R Bosuil is not available on Royal Antwerp FC match days and illegally parked cars may be towed. Around the AFAS Dome, event zones (pink and dark green) have a 2-hour limit around concerts. More info β†—

Low entry heights

Most older car parks admit only about 1.70 to 1.90 m (Station-ZOO 1.75 m, Groenplaats and Roosevelt 1.90 m). Zuiderterras takes 3.50 m, the P+Rs 2.20 m, and Olympiade has no limit. More info β†—
